As part of the clemency trial of James Roane to reduce his sentence from capital punishment to life in prison, a biographical film of his life and the circumstances of his arrest was commissioned. I was Assistant Editor on the film to Laura Hanna, of Hidden Driver Films. A recent court decision has allowed defendants arguing for clemency to submit supporting biographical material. This film took several years to make and was based on interviews conducted by Hanna. It paints a harrowing portrait of James Roane’s life as well as the criminal and social system which produced him.
